Apiculture - AgriSea bee feed - key nutrition for healthy hives & increased brood production

#1

Hello everyone,

We have recently imported the AgriSea bee nutrition product from New Zealand for trial in our apiaries. Whilst there are a number of good dry and patty based pollen and pollen supplement based feeds now available, the issue around increased small hive beetle when feeding either of these cannot be ignored. To eliminate this problem we have found that the AgriSea product, which is added to the sugar syrup feeder, has certainly addressed the small hive beetle isue whilst at the same time is very easy to use and results in a remarkable increase in brood production when compared to hives of the same size in the same location with everything else being equal.

Results from NZ showed feeding bees AgriSea at 20 ml per L of sugar syrup every two weeks increased brood production 80 % more than those fed sugar syrup alone, and by feeding AgriSea at 40 ml per L then increased brood production by an additional 17 %.

These significant brood production increases are remarkable and we are very please with the results we are having and the bees remain very eager to feed on it.

By way of background on the product I have provided the below from the manufacturers website for your further reading.

The New Zealand native seaweed species (ecklonia radiata) is batch-brewed with specially selected essential herbs for up to 90 days to make our Bee Nutrition tonic.

The natural brewing process eliminates the use of processing with heat, chemicals, freezing or dehydration that might ‘denature’ the sensitive nutrient balance, allowing the micro-nutrients to be released in an active form to enhance bee survival over the crucial winter period.

AgriSea’s Bee Nutrition holds a wide variety of trace elements in a naturally chelated form that ensures easy and ready uptake by the Bee. The availability of amino acids also important for bees over winter are also readily available.
